Program Title:
Supporting Super-Mom: Acknowledging & Overcoming Gender Inequity in the Home to Improve Maternal Mental Health
(Approved for CE towards maintaining PMH-C)
Clock Hours: 3
Content Description:
Women still tend to be the default parent, domestic task manager, and primary doer of unpaid, invisible labor in the home – leading to burnout, resentment, and anxiety. This inequity takes place in various household dynamics, including those wherein women earn more than their male partners. It can be harmful to women’s mental health, particularly during the perinatal period and for mothers in general. Learn how we can provide support and improve maternal mental health by acknowledging and overcoming gender inequity in the home. This training will be an interactive, educational, and inspiring conversation on how to offer clinical support using strategies pulled from various psychotherapy modalities, it will teach participants about behavioral tools like the Fair Play method to more equitably divide domestic tasks, and describe ways to advocate for change on a macro level
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify several historical and cultural contributions to the current inequitable state of gendered division of domestic labor in America.
2. Participants will be able to describe the ways in gender inequities can impact the mental health of women, particularly women during the perinatal period and mothers in general.
3. Participants will be able to describe clinical support strategies drawn from at least 3 psychotherapy modalities that can be used with the perinatal population and mothers in general.
4. Participants will be able to learn about and practice behavioral strategies to help create a more equitable domestic dynamic, including activist Eve Rodksy’s Fair Play method.
5. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 macro-level advocacy strategies to benefit the perinatal population and mothers in general.
