Content Description:
Part I presents an overview of findings and theories from biomedical, psychological, and social research that are central to a trauma-informed and -responsive approach to Perinatal Mental Health. A thorough review of the unique presentations of trauma symptoms in the perinatal period will inform the discussion on how principles of trauma-informed care must be adapted to diverse perinatal clients and their unique needs. The workshop will thoroughly prepare providers for trauma-sensitive intakes with perinatal clients.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify main findings and theories from biomedical, psychological, and social research that are central to a trauma-informed and -responsive approach to Perinatal Mental Health.
2. Describe and explain how core PTSD symptoms present differently in the Perinatal Period.
3. Explain the principles of trauma-informed care and how they apply to the unique needs of diverse perinatal clients.
4. Explain how the unique needs of perinatal clients require adaptation and psychoeducation of nervous system-focused clinical interventions.
